"You go into love, and you’re pretty much going to get hurt at some point, it’s just kind of the way it is."

That's what Spencer thinks of love. He never believed in it, he never saw it: his parents got divorced when he was a kid, his dad left his mom when she needed him the most.

And isn't love about being there for the person you love, most of all during hard times?

Then, he had it. He thought he met his soulmate, Maeve, but he didn't even get the chance to tell her that he loved her. Because he did. But she was shot right in front of him.

So yeah, love wasn't something he believed in. He hated love. He didn't need love.

But then, after a long time, he met you. And you changed his world in a way he didn't anticipate.

You were everything he has always wanted, but he was still holding to the thought that everyone leaves in the end. And he didn't want to suffer, not anymore.

Not after Maeve.

But there he was, once again. He was in your bed, and you two were snuggled up with each other. You notice that he's lost in his thoughts and you look at him while smoking your cigarette.

"You've been locked in here forever and you just can't say goodbye. That's your problem, Spencer." You softly say, in a casual tone, referring to the fact that he was still stuck in his old heartbreaks and pain. He just can't let them go.

That's why, even if you two have been having this thing for nearly two years, he can't bring himself to fully commit to you. He knows he loves you, but he can't bring himself to admit that, not to you, not to himself as well.

He doesn't want to. That's why, everytime you two kiss, it feels like an apocalypse to him.

He slowly stands up from your bed, looking for his clothes. "I think I'm gonna go back home." He just says, without even looking at you.

And you felt hurt. Again. Because that's how it was between you and Spencer: you two spend some really beautiful moments with each other, you share intimacy, you share love, and then he leaves.
