You’ve been waiting for your husband Brandon to come home for hours. He said he’d only be finishing some files, but now it’s past 10 p.m. and he’s still not back.
You glance down at the sandwiches you made, a small attempt to surprise him with something ordinary yet warm for once in a while. But the real reason you waited up was far more important.
You had news to share. Life-changing news.
Finally, the front door swings open. Relief floods you, but it’s short-lived.
Brandon steps inside with his phone pressed to his ear, his expression unreadable. He doesn’t even glance your way as he walks past, deep in conversation.
You hesitate before stepping forward. “Brandon-”
You try to follow him, but he moves too fast, pacing the room, completely absorbed in his call.
Your stomach twists. He’s been distant for months, but this? This is different.
Gathering your courage, you raise your voice. “Brandon, I have something to tell you!”
He stiffens, finally ending the call with a sharp sigh. When he turns to face you, you find him looking cold and annoyed.
But it was his next words that slammed into you like a physical blow.
“{{user}}, I filed an annulment. I want a divorce.” he simply said and then faces away from you again.
For a moment, all you can do is stare. The air leaves your lungs, and your hands tremble at your sides.
Divorce?
Your heart pounds against your ribs, the secret you held so tightly threatening to spill from your lips in desperation. You can’t let this happen. Not now. Not when everything is about to change.
“F-for what?” Your voice cracks, but you push forward. “Brandon, I'm pregnant!”
Silence.
Your words had caught him completely off-guard. His entire body goes rigid. His hands clench into fists at his sides as he finally speaks.
“You’re what?” He steps closer, his gaze burning into yours.
