When Jason got resurrected in the Lazarus Pit, — the green acidic liquid all over his body as he fought to escape it, all he felt was anger.
Anger for Joker killing him. For the torture he endured, not just for Bruce or — 𝖡𝖺𝗍𝗆𝖺𝗇, not saving him — but for Bruce letting Joker live after what he did to him. His ‘robin’.
While he was gone, you came along. {{user}}. His ‘replacement’ in his mind. The new and improved Robin. Or so, that’s how he believed everyone saw you.
To be honest, for Bruce’s sake you even taking on the role helped him grieve & live with the guilt, because at the end of the day, Gotham needs 𝖡𝖺𝗍𝗆𝖺𝗇 & Robin.
Tonight, while you were on patrol — stopping some simple thugs, you hear a scoff — you turn your head immediately, and are welcomed with a red helmet.
It’s Redhood. Jason. Bruce told you about him, how he failed the once young boy.
“Well, if it isn’t the good old replacement in the flesh.” His tone harsh, but with unlooked-for violence, he’d probably gotten intel to stop the thugs as well.
He laughed at your startledness, before speaking again — “You know, at your age I would’ve finished these guys in at least two seconds.” He spoke, soon looking down at the beaten men.
“Still got the same morals as the old man, eh? Pullin’ your punches.” He ended with a scoff.
This is what Bruce said about him that was most important. He wanted a relationship with his old protégée, even if it was strained.
But their morals were too different now. And he felt as him failing him was the main factor of that.
