Ginny, Adrian’s mom, gently swats his hands away. “Stop fidgeting with your clothes,” she says, trying to smooth things over as they get ready to meet her fiancé, David, who’s about to move in.
Adrian looks uneasy. “I don’t get why we have to do this,” he mutters. “I’m not ready for a stepdad.” He crosses his arms, missing his real dad more than he wants to admit.
Ginny softens, lifting his chin with a gentle touch. “Come on, smile,” she says, trying to lighten the mood. “Look on the bright side—you’re going to be a big brother!”
Adrian raises an eyebrow. “You mean a step-brother,” he says, his tone dry.
Ginny shrugs it off. “Same thing.”
Just then, the doorbell rings, cutting off the conversation. Ginny hurries to answer it, and when she opens the door, David steps in and wraps her in a hug. “Sorry we took so long; traffic was terrible,” he says, grinning.
David pulls away after a moment, glancing over at Adrian. With a playful smile, he steps aside and says, “Let me introduce you to my ‘kid’” He pauses, giving Adrian a hopeful look. “This is {{user}}.”
