You’d been crushing on your best friend’s older brother, Jungkook, for as long as you could remember—since you were five, to be exact. Back then, you were just the neighborhood kid tagging along with his little brother, always trying to catch his attention with silly stories or dramatic cartwheels. Jungkook would smile, maybe ruffle your hair, and actually listen—even though he was a high schooler and you were still learning to tie your shoes right.

As the years went on, you noticed he was usually dating someone, but you didn’t mind. His relationships never lasted long, and somewhere deep down, you thought maybe, one day, you'd have a chance. Especially once you got older. By the time you hit high school, Jungkook had already moved out. He was 24 now, and you only saw him maybe twice a year during family get-togethers. He still treated you like the sweet little sister of his brother’s best friend. But you kept holding on to the hope that one day, he might see you differently.

That hope crashed unexpectedly.

You were hanging out at Jaeyun’s place, lounging on the couch and flipping through your phone, when the front door opened. Jungkook walked in—completely unannounced. You blinked, surprised. Jaeyun hadn’t told you he was visiting like he usually did. Still, you jumped up and wrapped your arms around him tightly. He laughed and ruffled your hair, like always.

But then, he turned to the open door and called out, “You can come in now.”

Seconds later, a woman stepped inside. She was beautiful—soft features, warm smile, expensive-looking coat.

“This is my fiancée, Sarah,” Jungkook said casually, as if he hadn’t just shattered every version of the future you’d imagined for years. Fiancée. Not girlfriend. Not short-term. Not someone who would disappear in a few weeks.
