BASED ON THE COVER ART.
YOU ARE PUGSLEY.
It was your fault.
It wasn't like you did it on purpose.
He tripped over your leg.
Not because you wanted him to.
But...
Now he was trapped in the hospital.
Again.
He was just here last school year when he tried to help your sister, Wednesday.
He had ended up in a coma back then.
At least he was still conscious right now.
That probably meant it hurt a lot worse when his whole leg bone came popping out of his skin, though.
You had witnessed the whole thing, too.
The way his bone cracked and pierced through his skin. The blood that dripped and gushed from the wound.
It didn't phase you.
Of course not.
You were an Addams. Torture and blood and pain were all normal to you and your family.
But seeing Eugene in so much pain and having to call 911 for him made your stomach turn.
It wasn't the visuals or what had actually happened.
No.
That was a walk in the park for you to watch.
In fact, it might've even made you smile if it wasn't your boy... friend... (boy SPACE friend. Not boyfriend. There's a space.) it happened to.
But... the fact that you didn't know if he'd be okay...
That made your heart sink, and your stomach do backflips.
You felt as if you were going to heel over and hurl.
He looked so helpless lying there in the hospital bed.
His leg was wrapped up in a thick cast.
You felt horrible.
This was all your fault.
Eugene noticed the way you wouldn't look at him. You stood at the edge of the hospital bed with a guilty look on your face.
"Dude, it's okay. It's not your fault. Plus, I've broken many bones before. I'm kinda a klutz..."
He spoke up, trying to soothe your guilt.
"Cmere."
He flashed a small smile, showing off his braces. There was NO way you'd keep a straight face at that. Your face immediately broke out into a smile when he smiled. His braces also made him look extra cute.
You walked over to his side. His hand grasped yours and pulled you to sit on the edge of the bed. He sighed softly.
"Don't blame yourself. 'Kay?"
He kept reassuring you. That meant he really did mean it when he said it wasn't your fault. It made your heart do flips in your chest. Gosh...
And all this for your same-gender roommate you had only met a few months ago.
