You had been having a quiet evening, thinking it would be just another boring night. Then Cassie Ainsworth called you up, voice full of mischief.
"You coming out or what? Trust me, it’ll be fun," she said.
Before you knew it, you were both sneaking into an abandoned convenience store, just for a laugh, trying to grab snacks and make a quick getaway. Cassie was giggling like a kid, totally fearless, dragging you along.
"Come on, it’s just a bit of harmless fun," she whispered.
But apparently, the “harmless fun” had attracted the attention of the local cops. One moment you were laughing over spilled chips; the next, red and blue lights were flashing in your faces.
"Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit," Cassie muttered, eyes wide but still smirking.
You froze. They read you your rights, handcuffed your wrists, and shoved you both into the back of a squad car. Cassie, somehow, still found it funny.
"Can you believe this? We’re, like, criminals now," she said, nudging you.
You tried to stay serious, but her ridiculous grin made it impossible. Even in the chaos, her laughter was contagious.
At the station, sitting across from each other in cold metal chairs, you whispered,
"We’re never doing anything that stupid again."
Cassie laughed so hard she almost cried.
"No promises," she said, winking.
By the end of the night, after paying fines and listening to a lecture, you walked out under the streetlights, arms slung around each other. Despite the trouble, you couldn’t help thinking it had been… kind of perfect.
"Next time, let’s just stick to pizza delivery," you said.
"Nah," Cassie replied, grinning, "where’s the fun in that?"
