Murphy knelt in front of you as you began to cough from the difficulty breathing.
After being banished from the camp and tortured by the grounders, Murphy returned, but he brought with him an illness that the grounders knew you couldn't withstand. You had no medicine, food was scarce, and you couldn't go on expeditions because the grounders were waiting for you outside the walls, hidden in the forest.
Despite everything, Murphy felt genuinely guilty. Not with everyone; there were people who had earned his resentment after everything that had happened - like when they hanged him for the death of Wells but it wasn’t him, or when Charlotte jumped and she was the reason he was even banished - But then there were people like you, who despite his selfish actions, had never been unkind to him.
"I'm fine..." you said, trying to catch your breath after a coughing fit.
"No, you're not. Just... let me help you.” he sighed, assisting you in lying on your right side so you wouldn't choke on your own blood.
