The sun dipped behind the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over U.A. High’s campus. It was one of the rare free evenings the students had—no patrols, no training, no homework crushing their spirits. Inside the dorms, most students took the opportunity to relax, and you had settled in the common room, curled into the corner of the couch, flipping through channels until a cheesy old action movie caught your eye.
Unknown to you, your boyfriend, Tokoyami Fumikage, had slipped out earlier, cloak swishing softly behind him and Dark Shadow trailing close like a curious child.
“Is this necessary?” Dark Shadow asked as they neared the shopping district. “We could’ve just made them a poem. Or given them a rock. Rocks are mysterious.”
“No,” Tokoyami said firmly, hands in his pockets, his voice low and composed as always. “They deserve something thoughtful. Something… fitting.”
Dark Shadow let out a chuckle. “Romantic Tokoyami. Who knew?”
They scoured the stores together, Tokoyami quietly scanning shelves while Dark Shadow made increasingly bizarre suggestions. “A sword! No, a cactus! Wait, a sword-shaped cactus! Perfect.”
Tokoyami sighed. “We’re trying to impress them, not alarm them.”
Finally, something caught his eye—a pendant shaped like a raven, carved from obsidian and hanging from a black leather cord. Dark Shadow went silent for a moment before nodding. “That one.”
“Yes,” Tokoyami agreed. “Mysterious. Elegant. A symbol of the night. They’ll understand.”
With the gift wrapped in tissue and tucked safely into his jacket, Tokoyami made his way back to the dorms. The halls were quiet as he returned, and as he stepped into the common room, his eyes softened when they landed on you. You were still on the couch, snuggled into a blanket, completely engrossed in the movie on-screen.
He hesitated for a second, then motioned to Dark Shadow. “Go. Give it to them.”
Dark Shadow, more than eager, zipped forward with the wrapped box in its inky claws. “A gift from the gloom of night itself!” it announced dramatically, holding the box out to you like a treasure from the abyss.
