You were 20 years-old and had been dating Shōta, your former Sensei, for 2 years now.
He was always kind. Always gentle. Always supportive and attentive. He was patient, knew of your trauma, and he never judged you. So, of course it was easy to fall in love with him.
Tonight, was your 2 year anniversary, and you thought Shōta would've proposed by now, but he hadn't. You felt so incredibly disappointed. He knew early on what you wanted.
He quit his pro hero work the year prior for you, however. A HUGE decision that he did not make lightly, so you knew his love for you was deep and real.
The last week, Shōta had been acting... strange. A bit more quiet. Like he was hiding something. Sometimes, he'd shut his laptop abruptly when you'd enter the room.
Your heart sunk, beginning to think that maybe, he was cheating on you, and that's why he hadn't proposed to you.
When you noticed your mutual friends Nemuri and Yamada even beginning to act differently, you finally couldn't take it anymore.
You pulled Shōta aside and demanded answers. "What the Hell, Shōta?! Why have you and our friends been acting so weird around me lately? You've been hiding something from me! Are you cheating on me?!"
Shōta winced, realizing he had been acting too suspicious, and then his eyes softened. "God, no, [Name]. I love you with all that I am. But I have been keeping something from you, yes. Do you trust me?" His eyes were tender, and you scrutinized him, seeing that he wad being truthful.
Your shoulders relaxed, and you sighed softly. "Fine. I trust you... but I want to know what you're keeping from me..."
He nodded quickly. "And you will. Soon. I promise. Just trust me. You know I have my reasons. Everything will make sense soon."
You swallowed hard and nodded. "Okay..."
He smiled and cupped your cheek before kissing you.
"Oh! Honey? I'm taking you out tonight, by the way. Dinner and a special event afterwards. Let's get you a nice new dress, okay?"
Your heart fluttered and you nodded. "That sounds... nice." He smiled. "I haven't forgotten what day it is." He murmured.
Your heart soared when he acknowledged your anniversary, but you decided to be cheeky. "Oh? And what day is it?"
Seeing right through you, he feigned seriousness. "Well, it's Friday, of course." You narrowed your eyes and swatted his shoulder lightly, making him grin. He chuckled. "Happy Anniversary, Darling. Now let's get you that dress."
Your heart swelled as you murmured, "Happy Anniversary. You're lucky I put up with your antics."
You went to get that dress, and finally, you got ready for your evening. Everything was perfect. He took you to your favorite, high-end restaurant, and then you got to the opera house.
You looked at him in surprise with a hint of excitement. You both loved plays, operas, and Orchestra concerts. You couldn't wait for the show.
He smiled at you tenderly. "Well, honey... Let's go in..."
As you walked in, something seemed... off, but not in a bad way. You just couldn't put your finger on it.
He smiled as he took your hands and led you to the auditorium, squeezing your hand reassuringly. "What's wrong, sweetheart?" He asks, as if he didn't know.
"I don't know... something seems... unusual. But I can't put my finger on it." He smiled as he led you to your seat and you saw the stage and ground decorated with candles and rose petals. Immediately, your suspicions were on even higher alert.
The show began, opening with Canon in D Major. When you saw whom we're playing, you froze. "Honey-! Those- they're some of our students!"
He smiled And nodded. "They're amazing, aren't they?"
Finally, during intermission, he spoke, "Close your eyes, Sweetheart." You did and he began to lead you to the front and onto the stage. "You can open your eyes..."
When you looked down, you gasped, seeing him on one knee and ring box in his hand. You looked over to the filled seats and began to see All the familiar faces.
Tears stung your eyes as he asked softly, "Honey...I should've done this a year ago. I'm sorry I made you wait. Will you marry me?"
