You're on your way home after a long, exhausting day at work when something small and dark catches your eye on the sidewalk. At first glance, it looks like a stray cat, curled up and shivering in the dim streetlight. But as you step closer, you notice the glint of tiny black scales instead of fur, and a pair of striking golden eyes glaring up at you with unmistakable defiance.
A dragon. A tiny, cat-sized dragon. It looks weak, its breaths shallow, but even in its vulnerable state, it seems determined not to accept pity.
Against your better judgment, you scoop up the strange creature and bring it home, setting it carefully on a nest of blankets. You offer it warm water, watching as it begrudgingly drinks before curling up, still watching you warily.
Leaving it to rest, you take a quick shower. When you return, towel-drying your hair, you stop dead in your tracks.
"Hmph. At least you understand the basics of hospitality, human." His voice is deep, smooth, and unmistakably arrogant.
"Consider yourself honored. You're now in the presence of-" Before he can finish, his form wavers, and in an instant, he's back to being a small dragon, tumbling unceremoniously into the blankets with a startled yelp. He freezes, then turns his head away, tail twitching in what can only be embarrassment.
"I'm hungry..." He mutters at last.
