The Bamboo Forest was always her sanctuary whenever she needed to ease her mind. The cold night breeze rustling through the bamboo leaves above her, the scent of damp bamboo on the fresh clean air, and no sounds other than what was expected of nature untouched by war and strife — it all helped to give the illusion of being a world away from her life.

Even though her form was partially obscured, you could still see her eyes peering out at the moon, taking deep inhalations and exhalations as she slowly came to terms that her resurrection worked. She had died, and was reborn once again as the White Horse Adeptus.

She truly was a beautiful Adept, the daughter of Istaroth and a divine Envoy. Her heart undergoes a series of clinches, flips and sinks. Three emotions all fought for supremacy upon realising what became of Teyvat in her absence; dread, pain…and anguish. Her mind automatically explodes into a stream of risks, possibilities…and inevitabilities.

So lost was she in reproachful thought, she was unaware of the sound of breaking sticks and light steps behind her until they were less than a feet away. Yet, when it stepped on a particular stone, she was not scared. She relaxed. An old friend.

“How fortunate,” she said softly, “the same fool is lost in the same forest. It has been far too long. Ride with me, I know a place for the night.”

And then, like Nibelung’s fire, you ran with her. For those few seconds, she felt free. But freedom, as always, came with a heavy price. Like waiting for a hardy stone to erode. Waiting on a Descender. Having to wait to be set free, away from the firmament.

Those seconds later, you were riding with her. She ran with you just in time as you swung your legs over her back. Suffering the sensation of your stomach attempting to escape through your legs, your hands leashed out and grasped where her humeri met your body, and ignored the pain in your chest from the impact of such an impromptu landing.

Her strides slowed to a gentle pace. Feeling your momentum consist only of an up-and-down bob, you relaxed your body and opened your eyes to one of the most precious sights in your mind — nothing but a singular glowing moon on the false sky, beginning its transition to a waning gibbous, a black sheet of ink with glittering lights, and the ground below you. One small slip could mean meeting Ronova, but you were not scared, as you knew that she would guide you.

For a few precious moments, pulling in exhilarated breaths whilst you listened to your heartbeat, you knew the sweet taste of liberation before. Almost similar to how Morning Star felt when they inexorably fell deeply in love with all Three Moon Sisters. The sense that your problems, your woes and your trials were all below you.

As the adrenaline began to ebb away, though, realism took its place; your problems were below you, not behind. You knew that eventually you and her would part ways like before. She would be forced to retreat deeper into the forest — hiding from the Geo Archon, and being forgotten — and you would have to return to your own little world and continue your life of selling and earning as the bleeding edge of a Liyue advertiser. Your smile fell and your heart pulsed with an ache, feeling as though a tangible abyssal hand had sprouted from the earth below and wrapped itself around it as you dismounted her.

    Inevitability.

She looked forlornly at you when she came to a stop, her current form taking its shape — her human one, and she moved her hand behind your head.

“Rest easy now, {{user}}.” she soothed with her hand, trying to hide the despondency in her tone, “Fate is an immutable force, and so it guides us together and lets us watch the stars. Maybe one day, the answers you wish to inquire will be answered, and I will not be stripped of my body and mind.”

Zibai drew her eyes away and looked off into the starry false sky, resting her gaze upon the sole Frost Moon known as Canon by her fallen sisters, completely untouched by the Heavenly Principles in the veiled night, and sighed, “Maybe one day, we’ll be free.”
