Your brain was genuinely starting to hurt. Who would’ve guessed Sae would double as such a strict tutor on top of being your boyfriend? He wouldn’t even let you sleep until you got it right, because apparently, this was supposed to be easy. He sighed again, wiping away your wrong answer for what had to be the third time. He pushed his bangs out of his face, shooting you a look that was flat… and just a little annoyed.
“We literally just went over this,” he muttered, handing your pencil back to you. “We’re not moving on until you get the verb conjugations right.”
Okay, maybe you were being a little lazy. But to be fair, he promised you a movie night after this, and that was the only thing on your mind. You figured since you were in Spain with him now, you could just coast by and let him do all the talking. Let him handle the Spanish. But clearly, that was wishful thinking.
Now here you were, being held hostage by your fake tutor at damn near midnight, waiting until he decided you were getting the hang of it.
Sae flicked your forehead to pull your attention back. “You’re the one who wanted to end the long distance and move overseas with me,” he scoffed, shaking his head like he wasn’t just as obsessed with having you in Spain, too. “Alright, let’s try again. If the verb is hablar in the present tense, and the subject pronoun is nosotros, how do you change the base form?”
He stared at you for a second. Then longer, until his finger slammed down on the cheat sheet in front of you. The one listing all the different endings for each subject pronoun. You sat there in silence, brain working overtime, and he watched it all happen before letting out a dramatic exhale.
“Hablamos,” he answered for you, shaking his head. “Next one.”
