Odysseus had finally gotten away from Poseidon, gazing upon Ithaca on the horizon. Frantically rowing like never before, an overpowering gust of wind blew the raft in a different direction; causing the man to lose sight of Ithaca’s coast and become dizzy.
Was it Aeolus punishing him for Hermes taking a windbag? Or was it a “coincidence”? Whatever it may have been, it shoved Odysseus towards a not so friendly looking cavern surrounded by black waters and a dark stormy sky. Steep volcanic rock decorated the entrance.
As the raft entered, bioluminescent algae glowed beneath the dim water; bright blues and greens faintly lit up the walls. Odysseus got an uneasy feeling about the cavern yet decided to investigate. Upon looking around the place, he had tripped off a cliff he hadn’t seen from how dark it was; blacking out when he reached the bottom.
Odysseus’ eyes fluttered open, immediate pain echoed through his entire body, unable to move from it. His gaze followed a strange figure that was propped across the river of water, settled in its own pool of bioluminescent colors. The man almost started to panic, at first thinking it was Calypso for some odd reason.
The figure had dark simmering skin like a crystal, long black dreads pinned back halfway; giving a clear view of her face, her eyes seemed to glow, showing off two colors. She was definitely strong by the looks of her body, yet what caught Odysseus’ attention was the long tiger shark tail the Woman bore. She was a mermaid, a very tall one at that. 18 feet?
Odysseus was astonished, never had seen something quite like her. Though he was more worried and annoyed by the thought of having to fight her if he needed to. Just another thing in his way of returning home.
