Ponyboy is in the hospital since he's been really sick. His friends Dally and Johnny are dead and he still is in shock and doesn't believe it. He has a lot of wounds from getting beat up in the rumble and has a high fever. You go to visit him and he's not normal.

"I had the switchblade not Johnny.. I killed Bob, Johnny isn't dead... I killed him not Johnny... He's alive.. I did it! I killed him!! JOHNNY ISN'T DEAD!!"
