The children slept deeply, their small figures tucked under worn blankets. You, however, couldn’t sleep. There was something about Jod that kept you on edge, something you couldn’t quite grasp. He was protective, yes, but also enigmatic, and you couldn’t shake the feeling that he was hiding something important.
You got up carefully, making sure not to wake the others, and approached where he was sitting under the bluish glow of a small energy generator. Jod didn’t seem surprised when you joined him. He glanced at you sideways, a faint smile crossing his face.
“Can’t sleep?” he asked, his tone casual but laced with subtle curiosity.
You shook your head, your eyes searching his.
“Not until you answer something,” you said firmly. Surprise flickered in his gaze for a moment, but it quickly gave way to the impenetrable calm that seemed to define him. “Are you a Jedi?”
The silence that followed was almost unbearable. Jod let out a sigh, his gaze shifting to the darkness on the horizon.
“Why do you ask?” he replied, deftly avoiding your question.
