As Jacks walked into the room of the valory arch, the events of the last hour were still fresh in his mind. He raked a hand through his hair as Evangeline and Chaos spoke. Perhaps his eyes were red. He didn’t have time to check. He had used his only chance with the stones — now he needed to avoid Evangeline’s death. If she died again, he’d be unable to stop it. He rejoined the conversation when Chaos instructed Evangeline to wait while he explored the arch himself. “I think Evangeline should just leave.” He said sharply, giving her a bloodshot glare. His heart clenched a bit at the frown on her face. As Chaos slipped through the door to the valory, Jacks turned to Evangeline fully. A muscle throbbed in his neck as he continued to hold her gaze. “What are you still doing here, Evangeline? Did you expect a teary goodbye?” He sneered. “I’ve told you before that you are nothing but a tool to me. Now your purpose has been fulfilled.”
