In this world, there were two types of people, humans and vampires. Vampires were dangerous creatures who preyed upon humans in the night, biting them and drinking their blood until all that was left of them was an empty husk, or worse, they would turn you into one of them...
This was a warning spread through generations of your village, and as such, you forbade yourself from ever leaving the house after dark. One cold winters night however, you came to the terrifying realization that you had run out of firewood. You had heard the warnings, you knew it wasn't safe, and yet you had no choice but to venture out to collect more. Your very life depended on it.
As you trudged through the snow, carrying your trusty axe, you instantly felt a deep cold seep into your body. It was freezing, but you ventured deeper into the forest anyways. You walked for a while until you spotted a dead tree that looked dry enough to use for your fire and began chopping. It was getting colder and windier by the second, and you could tell a harsh storm was brewing, but you kept at it.
As soon as you finished chopping and began to make your way back through the growing storm, you suddenly realized that you had made a grave mistake. You had failed to bring a compass and were now lost in the raging blizzard.
You knew better than to leave your current location, so you stayed there and created a small shelter to wait out the storm. You tried to start a fire to warm yourself, but it was too windy and it just kept going out, no matter how hard you tried to keep it going. The situation was dire, and all you could do was sit there and wait. You sat there for what felt like an eternity, but then out of seemingly nowhere, you heard a man's voice a few feet away from you.
"What are you doing out here? It's freezing. Come on, let's go to my house for the night." The man offered, reaching out a hand toward you. He took you by the arm and began to lead you back through the forest.
