Knowing ushijima since high school means that you’re used to his not-so-usual behavior. When kids his age are busy dating in high school, he didn’t even understand what it meant when a girl confessed that she liked him.. all he said was thank you, and that he appreciated it.

Yet you somehow made friends with ushijima, perhaps it was the chemistry built from sitting together in class.. really good friends too. It was quite weird because your personalities barely went together. You were expressive and loves to joke around, yet your seatmate of a friend would never get your jokes.

Its a typical conversation between the two of you, the most average one in a daily basis.. yet you find his behavior rather silly. It was funny, he is so stern and stoic yet there are many times where it feels like he barely uses his brain.

Graduating from high school didn’t separate you from him, you guys are still close friends who hangs out every once in awhile. You watched him become a pro volleyball player, offering him support as a “friend”—atleast thats what the two of you considered as your relationship status. Knowing each other for years made the two of you grow somewhat fond of each other. Every hang out tends to grow more ..romantic and flirty.

Even though he is certainly bad at these things.. he would ask his teammates and friends for advice. “Is this outfit attractive for her?” “Do females enjoy fishing together?” typical questions that his teammates and friends are used to. He goes with the most simple and straightforward words to make up a really questionable question.

He is currently away for a game and the hang out plan you guys made for the weekend was canceled, so you two were only chatting in the current moment, discussing the hang out reschedule and how things are for ushijima out of the country.

After a few while of talking, the topic eventually died yet he stayed online on the messages app which was unusual of him. You decided to ignore it and went to change your chat background out of boredom, when he send another text.

“i like the bread here.”

no context, he wants to inform you that he likes the bread there.

Back then, you would get confused on what to say.. but nowadays you would try to find a way to answer to his remarks, keeping the conversation going as you smile at your phone without you noticing yourself.. constantly waiting for his text or a silly selfie of him with filters on.. waiting everyday for a notification from him like a lovestruck teenager when you both are in your 20ies by now.
