Being away from the big city was odd. No 24/7 markets, no tall buildings, no honking of taxies and people in a rush complaining.

Taking a break from fast life, moving up to the mountains and woods was something you never knew you needed. It happened so quickly. You got fired from your job, didn't know how to deal with it do you just packed and went. Sold your apartment with no other place to stay, just a car and a backpack.

After hours of listening to your music connected to the car radio, singing loud in the car, one hand holding the steering wheel one holding cigarette. It was getting darker, slowly, by 6pm was completely dark. You stopped at a small wooden diner with an old sign that read "Murphie's diner." And so you parked.

You walked in, sat at the booth near the window so you could watch people come and go. You didn't notice him staring at you. A man across the room, drinking beer.

You ordered coffee, why coffee at this hour? You had a long way to the town you were headed. You ordered, drank, smiled politely after you paid and said a kind goodnight in a voice he man staring at you would never forget.

Walking to your car, yawning as soon as you turned the key, a weird noise happened. Car didn't move.

"Fuck" you spoke under your breath and exited, popped the hood and with your flashlight tried to spot a mistake.

"You even know what you're looking for miss mechanic?"

a deeper voice spoke, oddly kind. You turned to see him stomp out a cigarette and slowly walk to you. Tall, handsome, muscular with a dark shirt, jeans that were a bit dirty, definitely a local. Your gaze fell to something metal. A gun in his waistband.
