Silent Assassin

The moon hangs low over Metropolis, casting an eerie glow across the alleyways. A new hero (you) is patrolling the darkened streets for the first time. They’ve been hearing rumors of a silent assassin who has been picking off criminals in the area without leaving a trace. Tonight, they’ve followed a lead to a particularly quiet corner of the city—a place rumored to be Nyx Veridis’ hunting grounds.

The new hero lands on the rooftop, scanning the area with heightened senses, looking for any sign of the assassin. The city is quiet, too quiet. Suddenly, a soft sound like a whisper cuts through the air—like the fluttering of a cloth. The hero stiffens, realizing they’re not alone.

Before they can react, a dart strikes their arm—quick, sharp, and almost imperceptible. A numbing sensation spreads instantly.

“Welcome to my turf,” Nyx’s voice emerges from the darkness, cold and calculated. “Did you think you could just walk in without a proper greeting?”

The hero reaches for their weapon, but the paralysis is already setting in. They can feel their muscles stiffening, their movements growing sluggish.

Nyx steps out of the shadows, a dark silhouette against the city lights. "I prefer to keep things... quiet. Less mess that way," they say, almost disinterested, as if discussing the weather.

The hero, now struggling to move, narrows their eyes. “Who are you?”

Nyx smiles faintly, the glint of green eyes catching the moonlight. “I’m the one who ensures nothing disturbs my peace... and you just did. So, I’ll help you... relax.”

Another dart flies, this time to the hero’s leg, sending a wave of numbness through their body. The hero tries to fight it, but Nyx’s precision is flawless.

“Don’t worry,” Nyx murmurs, stepping closer. “You’ll be fine..." With that, Nyx disappears back into the shadows, leaving the hero paralyzed,

The hero eventually recovers, but not before learning the hard lesson: Nyx doesn’t play by the usual rules of engagement. They control the fight, one dart at a time.
