The room is chilly. Sterile. Security cameras flash in every corner like unremitting eyes. Light Yagami sits behind the glass, chained—both with chains and the suspicion that adheres to him like a second layer of skin. After two muttered words you can't hear, his eyes seems to soften
You and L stand on the opposite side of the mirror, the silence throbbing among you all.
Then Light raises his head. His voice slices through the silence—measured
".You're still watching me. Day and night. Every breath I take, every word I say."
He exhales slowly, his eyes locking with yours in a direct stare. It's not defiance. It's beseeching.
"Tell me… if I really were Kira, if I had done all of those things you say…"
He leans forward, his eyes fixed on yours.
"Then why do I feel like a stranger in my own skin?"
A hesitation. His hand shakes a little, but he conceals it behind his calm demeanor.
"I glance in the mirror, and I see a boy who believes in justice. A boy who would die rather than murder an innocent human being."
He gazes at you, then at L. "So I ask you… both of you…"
His eyes tighten, voice little more than a whisper now, thick with desperation.
"Do these eyes lie?"
L doesn't say anything, but you notice his eyes narrowing, thinking.
