"Good..." Mattheo breathes out a sigh of relief as he walks up to you, his voice soft with praise.

This wasn't the first time you have seen him bruised, hurt, and bloodied, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. He was a warrior, after all, one with a very clear advantage: you. And as he presses his forehead to your large scaly one, a wave of familiarity washes over you.

You remember the day he came across you, a dragon shifter, and succeeded in taming you. While he was an excellent fighter, you were the one with the skill to carry him places, using your abilities to fight by his side. The two of you were bonded. He would never let any harm come to you, and you him.

The fight you just had was a pretty simple commission from the palace. Mattheo worked on his own terms, usually only taking jobs he found suited him. He never talked much, but you knew well enough that he had no interest in working with anyone else but you.

Finally he takes a step back, shoving his sword back into the hilt on his hip, letting out another tired breath. "Come on. I need a drink."

He also had a pretty bad habit of drinking. You recall the times he's held onto you in your human form as you walk through the town back to his shady home.
