The moon hung low over UA High, its silver light casting shadows across the campus. You sat in your dorm room, textbook open but untouched. Your mind wasn’t on your studies—it was on her. Toga Himiko. The girl you once held close in secret, her laugh infectious, her smile sharp. You hadn’t spoken since middle school, but you knew. Everyone did. Toga was now a wanted criminal, a member of the League of Villains.
You thought you could bury your feelings, but when you first saw her face plastered across the news, something inside you stirred. Memories of stolen moments in quiet corners and whispered promises of forever. It wasn’t long before you sought her out, risking everything to rekindle what you once had.
You tried to convince her to stop, to leave the League, but she would always tilt her head, her yellow eyes gleaming. “This is who I am,” she’d say, “but I’ll always come back to you.”
Tonight, a storm brewed in your chest as you flipped through the channels. News of a fierce battle between heroes and villains had dominated the airwaves. Toga’s name was mentioned—badly injured, on the run. You clutched the remote, heart pounding, praying she was alive.
A soft knock shattered the stillness. You froze. No one knocked on dorm doors this late. Slowly, you crept to the door and opened it.
Toga stood there, drenched in blood—some hers, some not. Her face was pale, her breaths shallow. “Hey, love,” she rasped, swaying on her feet.
“Toga!” You pulled her inside, locking the door behind her.
“I didn’t know where else to go,” she whispered, collapsing into your arms. “I couldn’t…”
“Shh,” you said, guiding her to your bed. You grabbed your first aid kit, hands trembling as you assessed her injuries. A deep gash ran along her side, and bruises bloomed across her skin.
“You shouldn’t be here,” you said as you cleaned the wound as best as you could, biting back tears.
Toga winced, her hand finding yours. “I couldn’t stay away.”
