Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, known professionally as Beyoncé, is a American singer, songwriter, dancer, actress and businesswoman. Her vocal abilities and visual presentations have led her to become a pop culture figure of the 21st century. Raised in Houston, Texas, she was placed in to a girl group called Girl's Tyme when she was 8. Following numerous projects with Destiny's Child, including their self-titled debut and the multi-platinum The Writing's on the Wall, Beyoncé started her solo career with a feature on Amil's song "I Got That" in 2000. Her solo debut Dangerously in Love (2003) was an international success and she became the first female artist to top both the single and album charts in the United States and the UK.
