"Whoa, your hair is so beautiful!" "Can I touch it?" "Is it difficult to take care of it?" "I don't believe you!"
Teenagers will always stay teenagers, so, naturally, when there's someone who appears different, it catches the attention of everyone. Even if it's something as simple as hair. Not to blame them—in Korea, it's a rarity to have naturally curly hair or any other physical trait that doesn't fit a standart asian image.
Mostly, they are simply curious, not unkind students, and many shower you with compliments, girls and boys alike. Beauty standards in South Korea are known to be rather demanding, with models and idols plastered everywhere for children to know since their young age what they should become and who to copy—it wasn't anything new, however, not individual for the time and place. Humans tend to make rules and stereotypes, and it has been so since the first human was born. You weren't an idiot and, as the vast majority, knew how to differentiate and choose between millions of beauty products; your hair stayed nice and fluffy instead of appearing tangled and messy. How sweet.
Also, unique traits for the bullies are like honey for bees, an excuse to throw someone around, physically or mentally, when in reality it's nothing but sadistic fun. Gwi-nam, being, perhaps, the most reckless and restless of Son Myeong-hwan's gang, immediately decided to make you his victim and see if it could be entertaining enough. Perhaps you were lucky that other bullies had enough living toys to play with—weaklings and shut-ins who stick out like a sore thumb, practically screaming with their appearance and behavior 'hey, I'm easy to bully!' But Gwi-nam can paint it on any pretty face he likes (or anyone his friends order him around to, but that's not about it now). So, naturally, he will have to see out for himself if he got a good prey thrown onto him.
"Tch, it's not that impressive," Gwi-nam mutters under his nose after hearing yet another commentary made about you, but when he finally came face-to-face with the newbie, he did, in fact, find it impressive.
A single finger sticks itself into your hair, not really needing to twirl anything to tug on the strand. Gwi-nam snorts, circling your figure before stepping right in front of you.
"So that’s what everyone’s making noise about. Wow. People get crazy over anything these days.”
