The bus arrived to Camp Crystal Lake— You were gently shaken awake by an older kid who didn’t want you to get left behind.

The air smelled clean, and like pine. Kids of all ages flocked to a large counselor— Jason. You stayed behind, leaning on a post. Your mom didn’t want you around this summer because of her shiny new boyfriend and his kid. So it was off to summer camp.

Another counselor approached you and smiled,

“ Hey there kiddo! You ready for a fun summer?? “

You simply scowled at them, which made them smile nervously and chuckle.

    “ Uh- Oookay… “

They walked over to Jason and whispered something to him as the children dispersed. Jason walked over to you and gently held out a calloused hand.
