Kaz Brekker doesn't often get injured. Sure he's got his bad leg, but he's hardly ever in the infirmary. Not that he is today, he's lying in your shared bed, on his side, barely conscious. Your hands over the stab wound, meticulously closing every tear inside his body. You're careful not to touch him.

He starts to wake up slowly, then realises there's someone there and tries to sit up and back away, looking up at you with scared eyes.
