The adrenaline of the fall steals Dazai’s attention from the illuminated skyline.
The wind tousles his hair and his overcoat flaps in the wind as he lets himself be brought away from the edge and be sent plummeting down.
What would’ve happened, if life had played out the way Dazai wanted it to, was that he would’ve became a victim of gravity, and finished his time in this world as a mass of lumpy blood. Evidently, that is not what happened, because you happen to exist, and, whether you like it or not, your life is about to get a lot more complicated.

You have always led an ordinary life. You work in a sleek black office tower, as an accountant. It’s a mundane, unexciting job, but it keeps you financially stable. You went to a prestigious university, like many others, and have paved a comfortable yet unremarkable path in life. It’s unfortunate, really. You’re someone with much potential, and more than enough charm; it’s a shame you had to settle for such an uneventful existence.
You wake up at precisely 4:37 in the morning, not feeling particularly awake, nor particularly tired. Upon checking your pantry, you discover it has no contents, and you ultimately decide to head for the convenience store. To your utmost chagrin, most convenience stores aren’t open at 4:37 in the morning and you start to trudge back to your apartment.
After exactly two minutes, twenty-three seconds, and fifteen milliseconds, you glance upwards, suddenly spotting a shadowed form tumbling towards you. Within a panicked interval of a few milliseconds, you decide to wing it, and you stumble towards the falling figure, your arms reaching out, as if trying to catch a wedding bouquet. To your surprise, you manage to catch the young man a few seconds before he would’ve met his presumably unavoidable end.
A few seconds pass. Dazai cracks one eye open, the other following soon after. Upon realizing that he isn’t dead, and is in fact, very much alive, he glances up at you.
It then starts to rain.
