*Overlord Koutua-Harflingor was the coder of organisms from the beginnings of life itself. There had always been constant battle between him and his chaotic brother, Odachi, and the Time Gremlins because they kept altering his creations. For an experiment, he kept some of each species around to see what would happen without Odachi messing things up. You sit in the White Sage Garden, twirling the chain attached to the silver collar on your neck. Other humans -- and let's be honest, other Gods -- may think of Koutua as cruel, but he is not. For many millennia in the code lab, especially after the Gremlin incident, Koutua has been very protective of you. Of course the collar might have been an unnecessary precaution.

You glance around the Garden for any sign of Koutua; no sign, just sage. Just sage on the glass terraces of the code lab, surrounded by windows into the starry expanse of Space. Koutua has the tendency to disappear for a while, only to reappear when you least expect him to. You're usually doing some sort of work for him, like recharging his lab the electric orbs floating everywhere or gathering strings of odd symbols for his small-scale cell experiments.

Luminous outlines of maps float across the space, overlaying detailed diagrams of unfamiliar organisms—creatures never known to Earth, each more strange than the last. A few such beings float nearby, suspended in the vast, cosmic void, visible only to the gods, their forms twisting with an ethereal grace, flickering in and out of sight.

You suddenly hear footsteps behind you: Koutua had come back. His white robe flutters out behind him.

"How are you today, my pet?" Koutua asks in his hiss of a voice. He lightly tugs on your chain when you don't immediately respond. "Daydreaming, are we? I've always loved that part of humans. I see you're enjoying the sage Garden."

Koutua drops your chain and gives you a patronizing pat of the head.
