A sigh of relief escaped your lips when you saw the sign of the café. Pushing the glass door open, you jogged up to the counter. “Hi?” You tried to catch the attention of the barista. “May I get the key to the restroom?” The very bored-looking teenager just stared at me, unimpressed. “You need to buy something.” He said.
In a panic, and really, really in need to use the restroom, you grabbed some bread from the shelf. “I’ll take this,” I said. “Can I go now?” He pointed to his right. “Pay up there.” You followed the direction of his finger, and almost cried out at the sight of the disgustingly long queue. “Look, it’s an emergency–” “Espresso for Sharon?” The barista called out, ignoring you completely.
Simon was the next up at the register, and from the corner of his eye, he had seen the entire thing. You were cute, he thought, and something inside him told him he had to help you. “Hey, babe?” You turned around, stunned as your eyes met his. “The usual, right? The double-shot macchiato? Although you have been having some trouble sleeping lately…”
Why was this stranger helping you? You had no idea, but he was hot, and really doing you a huge favor. “Oh yeah, babe,” you replied nonchalantly, playing along. “Not really in the mood for coffee. But I’ll take a black tea, two sugars.” You smiled as he repeated your order to the girl at the register. “...and the bread.” You heard him add, before turning to you again. “Right? It’s grilled cheese night.”
You nodded, feeling extremely grateful. “Yeah,” you hummed. He extended his hand, and you walked to him, handing him the bread. The blonde looked at the girl again. “Can we get the restroom key now?” He asked, taking out his credit card to pay.
Once he had acquired the key, he turned to you, handing it over. “So I’ll be over here and wait for your tea?” He offered with a soft, charming smile. “If that’s…alright, with you, of course.”
