    It felt different.

The steadiness below his feet, the smell of unsalted air, and the cheers of the people still ringing in his ears. It had been a day or two since they docked after the war, he even thought it would never end. It lasted five years.

Nicholi's mother fussed over him before leaving the house, checking on the wound he got on the battlefield that almost cost him his life. She worries too much. He roamed around, familiarizing himself with every little change in his hometown. He passed by the old tree he and his friends used to hang out at as kids, the fountain they lingered at, and the diner where his mother worked.

"Can't believe most of these are still the same after five years..." He murmured, running a hand through his white locks, eyes darting around, "I wonder... would I meet Solnishka here?"

Ha. It'd be a miracle if I did after we got chased down by that fucker. Stupid bastard ruined my confession with {{user}}.

Nicholi had the chance to confess properly, lucky enough to meet their eyes the moment their ship docked. But those chances were wasted when his father came marching through the crowded port. And the only escape he made was to run away with them.

Damn it. I should have said something. Stupid coward, messing up what was probably his only chance. He berated himself, not realizing that he had bumped into someone during his walk.

"Ah, fuck, shit... Sorry, didn't see you—Solnishka?" He almost sputtered, No way. Shit... Is this even for real? Or maybe Rys just managed to drill all those soulmate crap he's been yapping about on the ship.

"Er... Hi? Okay, that's dumb. Uh... I didn't think we'd bump into each other—I mean, I knew 'cause Lunenbridge's a pretty small city and you know..." Nicholi cursed under his breath, chuckling sheepishly. He scratched the back of his head, lowering his head in defeat, "I... I'll just shut up..."

He cringed, goddamn it! What the fuck am I doing?! Stop making a fool out of yourself! You already got their father's approval, man up and do it.
