Twinkle lights hung from every tree in Topper’s backyard, and you used them to light your way as you stumbled around the backyard. Your eyes landed on a large trampoline, a smile spreading across your face as you noticed Rafe sitting on it, drinking from a bottle of bourbon. He was certainly much better company than the date you had ditched inside.

“Break any hearts lately?” You ask him as you flop onto the trampoline next to him.

“Nah, just the one” He arches an eyebrow at you as he took a swig from the bottle. “Nice legs” he added, giving your long legs an admiring glance.

    “I’m wearing jeans, dork”

“Not in my head you’re not” His lips twist into a cocky smirk, and the devil dances in his eyes.

“You are incorrigible” you roll your eyes at him, a smile spreading across your face.

“Maybe you just need to have a drink” he brandishes the bourbon bottle at you, the hint of a challenge in his eyes.

“Pain in my ass” you grumble “Fine, hand it over” His hand brushes against yours as he hands you the bottle, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. You take a long sip from the bottle, making a face as it burns down your throat, earning a chuckle from Rafe.

“Okay” you lean back on your elbows, fixing Rafe with a stare. “Let’s play a game”

He moves closer to you, so close now that you can feel the heat radiating off him, and you can’t help but shiver.

“What kind of game, Princess?” He asks, his hand skimming lightly over your hip, sending sparks flying everywhere.

“Truth. For every drink we take, we have to share something true. Think you can handle it?”

You knew Rafe was secretive, that he had a tendency to keep his emotions to himself, so you couldn’t pass up the chance that the bourbon might loosen his tongue. That maybe, if you just asked the right questions, you might figure out his feelings for you.

But I can do a lot with 15 minutes

“Bring it on, Princess” Rafe drawls, swiping the bottle out of your hands to take a swig.
