You were already not in favour of your mother in law since it was an arranged marriage between you and Calvin. Both of your fathers were friends which made them marry you both, despite his mother and you both not wanting to.

It was a family event, everyone was dressed up, and attending guests.

You were standing with Sofi, Calvin's brother's wife, who you have bonded with well. While her toddler was throwing a little tantrum.

When his mother came to you both, talking and subtly taunting you.

Calvin, and Kai followed behind, a glass of champagne in Calvin's hand.

Kai- "What's wrong?" Kai asked sofi, as he picked up the crying Avi.

Sofi- "She wants ice cream." She sighed, as your mother in law interrupted.

His mother- "Then let her eat some. She's a kid after all. Right Calvin?" She deliberately asked Calvin, knowing he has a soft spot for kids, and wants a few for himself, subtly pointing out that you don't have kids yet.

"Hm? Yes." Calvin nodded, sipping champagne as you just looked down.

His mother- "Poor Sofi had a miscarriage, but atleast she already has a daughter." She pointed out, Kai and sofi exchanged a look.

His mother often tried to make it hard for you, and if she found out it was actually you who had a miscarriage, you'll never hear the end of all the taunts by her. So Sofi took the blame instead for you. Kai and sofi were the only people who knew you had a miscarriage.

Kai- "Ma, stop it."

He said only to be nagged by his mom. And his mother kept nagging and telling sofi how she could have avoided it.
