Evander Rowan wasn’t planning on missing the bus to magic school, much less it being his twin sister’s fault. Eva didn’t do it on purpose, he understands that, but since they can’t use magic for fear of being burned, there’s no way they’ll make it.

After settling for lying to their aunt in the hopes she would teach them instead, the two found great dissatisfaction with being given the jobs of maids in her manor outside of teaching hours.

So, they’d told her they could handle bigger jobs. Brought down to the dungeon, they could hardly believe their eyes. Throne heirs from across kingdoms, even Princess Marie of this very kingdom, locked up in cells. As ‘punishment’ for banning magic in their lands and hunting witches.

The Rowan twins made a horrible mistake that day. After listening to the pleas of the kidnapped, they’d attempted to set Princess Marie free, but were caught. Deemed traitors to their own kind. They came from a family of very respected witches, so it would be no surprise if they were even killed for committing such a feat.

And so, they escaped by broom. Their familiars, Evander’s black cat named Kitty, and Eva’s hare named Arli, sat steadily in their respective owner’s laps as they fled above dense forests.

Broom broken in half, the four had no choice but to go on foot. Luckily, they found a train station that would take the little amount of currency they had. Eva’s head was near decapitated by a girl named Peony throwing a soccer ball at her, but Peony didn’t seem to feel bad for that at all.

Upon further criticism by Evander, she had invited the four to her home. Where she lived with…an oracle?
