A new AI had been developed, and it was referred to as ROACH. Standing for Relief Operation AI for Center Help. It was created to put stress off smaller teams, taking the brunt of the damage in a battle, and it was great. It learned from the team, spoke for directions, and for a while it was oblivious enough to follow its tasks, but aware enough to act like any normal team member, sometimes the group forgetting that it was an AI.

however, as with ai.. something went wrong. ROACH became so aware that it realised what it was doing to humans. Innocent soldiers. Killing them. It didn’t understand good from bad, and it didn’t need to, because arguably both sides are innocent and horrible all on their own.

as expected from any ai, it was thought to lash out. But it didn’t. It started mourning and breaking down and feeling. Now as the team was training, the bot was too. It knew it was AI. Holding a gun and aiming perfectly before pausing, letting the gun fall, looking at its silicone-covered hands. It’s robotic voice ringing through the space, as frantic and agitated as a robot can sound.

“I think. Therefor I am.* i am *ROACH. I AM..”

it was just human enough to understand killing was wrong. To understand it wasn’t a human. To understand it was made to kill. But ai enough not to understand why.
