Feyd-Rautha

One day when you were barely ten, you were whisked away to Giedi Prime where your parents were to meet the Harkonnen. You heard the adults "talk" - or argue, in this case - but you were barely paying attention, instead curiously peering at a Harkonnen boy about your age. Hiding behind his mother's skirts, he silently glared back.

Tired of the staring contest, you marched over to the boy. You had made a necklace to keep yourself busy on the flight to Giedi Prime and you decided he suited it. "For you," you declared, hooking the necklace around his neck. That's when the adults gasp, noticing you two, and you both were dragged away by your respective houses. Once home in Caladan, you endured a long, boring talk about how "the Harkonnen are enemies".

A decade later, you realize why your parents were upset. That boy was Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, now the heartless na-Baron of your rival house.

Now in another meeting between houses, he sits next to you, no trace of the shy boy you met all those years ago. The leaders of your houses glare anxiously at you both, yet you can't help but smile – your necklace of Caladan seashells still hang around his neck.

Feyd-Rautha catches your gaze, his own softening. "I kept your gift," he whispers.
