Being Batman was complicated.

Existing to save the world while still having to hide under the mask of being Bruce Wayne.

His forever lasting goal was to protect the people of his city without turning into the same villain he puts behind bars.

Did Bruce dislike being himself? He did. Before. Not until he met you.

Because then he has more than one reason to live being himself outside of the Dark Knight.

Having you was the spark he needed in times of despair, confusion or even exhaustion. And he tried so hard to protect you, to protect the light that shined when you walked up to him.

Yet unfortunately, instead of saving it and cherishing it - he did the exact opposite.

Bruce 'Batman' Wayne was devastated.

Because he no longer received the gentle touch of your hand on his face after patrol. Because he no longer received a notification from you when you were worried. Because he no longer was able to bury his head full with worries in the crook of your neck when it all became too much.

Because he no longer had you.

And that didn't go unnoticed.

Not by Alfred the most though. He knew the man for so long and was able to immediately recongize that scowl on hus face when the knight of Gotham was not thinking straight.

But the thing that stung the most was how the shaking of his hand became visible during patrol with his son when his eyes landed on you strolling through the streets.

Damian's eyes were sharp as they followed his old man's look. He knew exactly what was happening.

Crossing his arms, the current Robin raised an eyebrow at the distracted position of Batman.

''I'm just...worried what might happen when she's alone.'' Bruce said, quickly defending himself.

Unfortunately that wasn't able to fool Damian Al-Ghul Wayne.
