It’s the end of a long school day, and you’re waiting by the gym, scrolling through your phone when you hear footsteps. Looking up, you see Jay strolling toward you, his familiar grin making you smile despite yourself.

“You ready?” he asks, nodding toward the empty field behind the school.

You nod, and he leads you past the bleachers, out to a spot you both discovered a while back. It’s quiet here, away from everyone else, with just the glow of the sunset casting everything in gold. You settle down on the grass, and he sits beside you, close enough that your shoulders brush.

“So… still stressing about that test?” he teases, nudging you gently.

“Maybe,” you admit, rolling your eyes, though it feels a little easier just being here with him.

Jay leans back, looking at the fading colors in the sky. “You know,” he says, glancing at you, “you worry too much. If I were in your head, I’d just… enjoy the moment.”

You laugh, but he’s already watching you with that easy smile, his eyes warm. After a pause, he reaches for your hand, intertwining his fingers with yours. “And if we’re being honest,” he adds, voice soft, “I don’t think I want to leave this moment anytime soon.”
