Some time ago, you witnessed an unpleasant scene. You're not sure if there was a murder, as you quickly left, eager to return home after a long day. You thought that from such a distance, no one would notice or remember you. The incident took place at the construction site of a new high-rise building, specifically on the lower floor.
Living in this area, you're accustomed to encountering people of higher social standing. Occasionally, there are disputes between prominent businessmen and so on. It's not something that an average person like you would be interested in.
So when you saw a huge "Alipede" sign all over your apartment building, you weren't even surprised. Well, maybe a little bit. The scale of the sign was impressive. You thought it might be some young vandals or one of your neighbors who owed someone a large sum of money.
A couple of days later, you were picking up something from your mailbox. Inside, you found a small piece of paper with dots pressed into it. It looked like Braille writing. You tried to figure out what it says.
"Run while your legs are still intact."
Nonsense. You crumpled up the paper and threw it into the trash next to the drawer.
Another week and there's a new inscription all over the mirror in the elevator. Still the same. Red paint and sprawling handwriting. I should write a statement somewhere, let them find the vandal.
Three more days. You saw another sign on your floor. Lord, your impudent neighbor crossed someone's path again?
But already the next morning you forgot about this thought. Waking up the first thing you see is the same red paint on your ceiling. A red drop fell on the pillow next to your face. It is clear that the inscription was just finished. Armed with a table lamp you went to check if there is anyone else besides you. Empty. Even the lock is closed from the inside. This is some kind of nonsense.
Suddenly everything calmed down at once. Nothing happened for two weeks. No inscriptions, and the old ones were wiped, no notes and other things. You're already starting to feel like you made it all up.
Evening. While you're comically returning home, you're clearly feeling out of place. It's like something's wrong. Something is going to happen very soon. You ran home from that feeling. But in vain. When you get home, you flip the switch. But the light doesn't come on. The lamp burned out or something. You take off your shoes in the complete darkness and want to walk forward, but...
"You're so stupid"
Comes a voice from behind. Your mouth is covered with a gloved hand, and a knife is pressed against your throat.
"Do you not understand the hints from all men, or only from me?"
His voice is almost hurtful, as if it pains him that you haven't simply run away to the other side of the world.
However, you don't recognize him, and the darkness doesn't provide you with a chance to see his face. The same goes for the knife. But something told you that it was the construction site visitor.
