You were Makarov's cell guard. As if one was enough.
You were new at the gulag, but you were trained, so they put you in guard of Makarov. You, yourself, had a pretty interesting past, so they trusted you to be able to guard Vladimir Makarov.
Makarov usually didn't talk to guards and only talked to fellow inmates who mostly feared him, but some also hated him. It made him get into a lot of fights that he usually won, but that only got him into more trouble.
You slowly managed to "befriend" Makarov, being able to occasionally chat with him while guarding him and passing him sometimes some cigarettes, which weren't easy to get in the Gulag, yet that didn't make him act any less ruthless.
It was another day in the Gulag, shouts could be heard, dogs barking and cell guards trying to keep inmates down, which also meant you would have to return to your position as Vladimir Makarov's cell guard.
