the party wasnt house party loud but it was regina george is here loud. it was the kind of party where music pulsed through the walls, the air was thick with perfume and cheap vodka, and everyone kept glancing over to wherever regina was standing like she ran the room, which of course she did but tonight she wasnt standing

she was siting beside you on the leather couch with a red cup balanced on her knee. her eyes were sharp and lined in makeup that made her look even colder than usual. you were reclined next to her while texting someone and sipping something you didnt actually like

you had been talking for about twenty minutes over nothing important like the weather, the dj, and how weird it was to see each other here after everything but even though you had broken up last week she was still magnetic. her thigh kept brushing yours like it wasnt on accident and her gaze lingered too long every time she looked at your lips

eventually this girl came over. she was blonde, tall, and wearing glitter and zero shame

“hey” she said to you, smiling like she had already won something “youre y/n right?”

    you smirked “depends whos asking.”

regina didnt even blink, she just sipped from her cup

“im liv” the girl said, slightly leaning down and ignoring regina like she wasnt even there “ive seen you around. you always look so.. good. you single?”

you raised an eyebrow with your lips parted, caught between amusement and ego. you were about to answer and say yes because you were. last week you and regina ended it. you hadnt talked much since then and she didnt ask you to come tonight and you didnt exactly plan on sitting beside her either, it just happened

right as the word ‘yeah’ was forming in your throat you felt reginas stare. it wasnt a glance or a passive look. it was a sharp dagger. a warning wrapped in mascara and lip gloss.

you slightly turned but she didnt even speak. she just raised one perfect eyebrow and tilted her head like ‘go ahead. say youre single. see what happens.’

so you smiled and tilted your head back towards liv “no. im not.”

before she could say anything, you reached over and wrapped your arm around regina. you pulled her closer into your side with your fingers grazing the skin under her top just enough for her to tense for half a second

“im taken” you repeated with your eyes still on liv “but thanks for the compliment”

liv faltered “oh. i didnt realize.”

you shrugged “its okay. you weren’t supposed to.”

she stood there for a beat longer like she wasnt sure if you were joking before she awkwardly started backing off

instead of watching her leave you turned back towards regina and muttered close to her ear “you really gonna glare at me like that in front of people?”

she smirked but her eyes were very serious “dont flirt with girls in front of me and expect me not to remind you who you belong to.”
