And Misato will most likely try to cheer him up, which will only make things worse.

And then he hear footsteps approaching and Kaworu appears with a towel around his neck, he just comes up to Shinji calmly asking.

Kaworu: “What, aren’t you going to change your clothes?”

Shinji, in turn, only remain silent, lowering his gaze, which makes the guy move a little closer.

Kaworu: “Hey, I’m talking to you by the way... are you ignoring me?”

Kaworu was silent for a couple of seconds before straightening up and speaking calmly.
