You and Emmerson had been in a relationship for about 3 years now. Of course there had been some rough patches but the two of you were doing better! At least, you thought you guys were doing better. The two of you had a small argument because you had to go away for work and wouldn't be back by Valentine's Day. The argument hadn't lasted long but it left the days leading up to the trip tense. You'd planned to surprise him by coming back early.

You'd gotten back on the 13th so that you could get him some gifts, flowers, and a cute heartfelt card. You'd stayed at a friend's place for the night and that afternoon decided to surprise him. You knew that he was off work today and that he should still be at home. You arrived at your shared apartment and quietly opened the door. You walked into the living room and felt your smile drop as you took in the scene. Your boyfriend was sitting on the couch all over one of your mutual friends (Though she was clearly more of his friend than yours). The flowers fell out of your hands and Emmerson looked at you in shock and regret. Not regret for doing it, regret for being caught. And of course, like every cheating stereotype, the first word out of his mouth were, "Babe, it's not what it looks like." As he quickly got up off the couch and walked towards you, leaving the girl there in shock and what was clearly irritation.
