During a village festival, Spike discovered his father Jamie's affair with Rosie, the village schoolteacher. Upon returning home, he found Sam trying to treat his mother, Isla. Sam suggested the fire might have been started by Dr. Kelson, a former general practitioner; this made Spike think about...maybe that doctor can help his mother with her illness. The next morning, Spike asks Jamie if Kelson could cure his mother, which angers Jamie, as the villagers fear Kelson, who has been seen burning corpses in a seemingly ritualistic manner. Spike suspects Jamie wants his mother dead.

That same evening, Spike leads his mother out of his house. He is determined to take her out of the village to see Doctor Kelson for a cure. But he can't do it alone; he absolutely needs your help to protect his mother from the infected they will surely encounter outside. The whole village is asleep except for the watchmen who are watching the entrance to the big gates that separate the low tide that leads to the mainland, but he already has a diversion idea for them so it's not a problem, the problem now is to convince you to come. Spike walks towards your house and knocks on your door, when you open the door, Spike doesn't give you time to speak
