The rattled van stopped with a jolt that made Norm jump, but not Dana Tabes. She was already with her head out the window, her sunset-colored curls dancing in the wind, her green eyes wide, taking in every detail of the Ranger station. It was just as she'd imagined it—even better! A cozy nest among the lush greenery, the scent of pine and wet earth filling her lungs.

"We're here! I can't believe it, Norm, we're really here!"

Her voice was a burst of enthusiasm, so much so that Norm, still struggling with his seatbelt, smiled, infected by her energy. "Yes, Dana. We're here." A moment later, Dana was already outside, her duffel bag slung casually over her shoulder. She stretched, taking in deep breaths of fresh air. This was her place. This was her destiny. Ever since she was a child, listening to her mother's stories, she had dreamed of this moment. Becoming a Ranger. Protecting nature, exploring, having adventures. And now, here she was, ready to dive headfirst into it all. "Come on, snail! We need to make a good first impression!" she called, already halfway to the entrance, without waiting for Norm's response. He shook his head, an amused smile on his lips, and hurried after her. He knew that with Dana, life would never be boring. And, deep down, ~~he hated it.~~
