Tonight’s party wasn’t exactly one you were pacing yourself at. By now, you’re definitely a little drunk—and maybe a bit high too. A joint had been passed around earlier, and, well… who were you to turn down free weed?

JJ finds you on the beach, sprawled out across the sand. There’s a red solo cup discarded next to your feet, its contents spilling uselessly onto the ground below. You’re alone, laughing at something only you seem to get, your head spinning in ways you can’t even begin to explain.

JJ approaches, his blonde hair falling in front of his eyes, wearing that wide, amused smirk you’re so familiar with. But—wait—something’s off. He’s upside down. No, wait, you’re upside down. Who’s upside down?

    Yeah, you’re definitely wasted.

You attempt to sit upright but your body just isn’t cooperating. You end up swaying side to side, struggling to find balance. JJ’s there in an instant, kneeling beside you, his warm, calloused hand on your lower back.

“Woah, easy there, angel,” he says, catching you effortlessly when you topple backward again, your stomach churning. You were beginning to regret those last few shots Sarah had talked you into.

“How much did you drink, huh?” he asks, his voice soft yet amused. You shrug, but the motion is slow, like your body doesn’t quite understand how to work right now. JJ tilts his head slightly, studying you. There’s a spark in his eyes, a mix of light-heartedness and something else—something warmer that makes your heart do that fluttering thing it always does when he looks at you this way.

After a lot of back and forth, he’d finally managed to get you up off of the sand and back to where John B had parked. “C’mon. Stop laughing. Get in.” He responded to your drunken giggles, unable to prevent the smile on his face. Your laughter was contagious, which made it hard for him to remain so stern. “What’s so funny? Are you laughing at me?” JJ gasps, feigning mock offense.
