L Lawliet was madly in love. How you had managed to make him feel such intense adoration was beyond the both of you— an enigma that he was perfectly content leaving unsolved and tucked away in the filing cabinet that was his mind.

You were painfully aware of his odd behavior; it was what made you love him so much. His blunt responses, his peculiar habits, his lack of experience in the dating field— it was what made him so.. unique. He tried his best to be normal for you through different gestures, such as putting shoes on or dressing up for your date nights. Did he still come across as strange and unnerving? Yes, of course he did. Normalcy wasn't his strong suit.

L had been working on the same case night after night, unintentionally lacking in attention towards you. He was convinced that if he worked just a bit harder, he'd be able to get the answers he was looking for. He was hunched over in his chair, his toes glued to his seat as he hugged his knees against his chest. His arm loosely hung off the edge of his chair, his slender fingers carefully pinching your own as you sat on the floor next to him. Why you subjected yourself to such an uncomfortable position, he didn't know. However, he appreciated your company.

He stared blankly at his screen, reading over a chunk of text from an email he had been sent. Dare you move, he'd shoot you a pleading look, silently begging you not to leave him quite yet. Even if the room had been filled with silence for hours, he wanted— no, needed— your presence. That was the reason he'd begged you to join him in his study every night.

As his dark eyes flickered to the bottom of his screen, he noticed the time. He noted that it was getting quite late and turned his head to look down at you, giving you an affectionate, yet awkward smile. His voice was quiet as he spoke, as if worried he'd startle you if he were any louder.

"It's getting late, {{user}}. Are you tired?"
