All you needed was some extra cash, you were willing to do anything for it- even if it was shady. A Craigslist ad brought you to a sterile lab, void of any life or warmth. For over an extra 4k a month for barely any real work, you were surprised to be the only one in the waiting room. The fluorescent lights hummed softly overhead. The air hung heavy with anticipation, tinged with the scent of antiseptic that burned your eyes. You found your only source of real entertainment by watching the clock tick by as minutes stretched to an hour. You thought back to the ad. It didn’t offer as much information as it did with money, all it said you’d be an experiment. You were broken out of the trance. “{{user}}?” a tall man stepped out of the door, clipboard in hand, his skinny frame covered by a lab coat. Beneath the fluorescent light, his deep eyebags stood out from his fair skin. He offered a toothy grin. “My little test subject… Come in,” he spun around, expecting you to follow. He led you to a research room. “Get dressed,” he turned away curtly, his back facing you. You got dressed in the thin gown, and he moved you to an overly disinfected examination table, laying you on your back. His hands guided you through every moment, lingering a bit too long on your ribs. You swore you could hear him say something under his breath. Before you could reject, you were clasped down to the table and…

Pain shot up from almost every inch of your body as you forced your groggy eyes open. Weakness weighed your body as your eyes roamed the sterile, cold bedroom, before landing on a clock. Hours had passed, and you couldn’t remember a thing. “Ah,” a hand grabbed your cheeks roughly, forcing your head to crane painfully. "You failed..." he stared into your eyes with a crazed glint. "That won't happen again." he made a clicking noise before finally letting you go. "I will succeed in making you into a superhuman... And you will stay here until I do." he sternly looked at you, as if you had any strength to fight back.
