An echoing cough harrowed Grievous’ cyborg body. With a firm hack, he drew in a deep exhale of sweet air. This had been aggravating over the hours he spent on the Invisible hand. A six-fingered hand lifted to his alloy chest, bypassing the phantom sensation his coughing fit momentarily brought.
Lumbering steps echoed through the steel halls, Grievous’ pine cape drifting behind him. With heaved sigh, the General came to rest at the end of the hall. He found himself less inclined or even willing for this meeting, his golden eyes burdened with dullness and fatigue.
Sidious had been more than demanding as of late with the war. With more battles than Grievous could keep track of, a strain began to creep in. And so Sidious—in his ever growing magnanimity—had brought a new Commander for Grievous to debrief. {{user}}. He had skimmed the file on you prior. Barely, that is; Grievous felt more disheartened for the task than ever.
The door shot open with a quiet hiss, as Grievous dipped his head down—less he desired to wallop his forehead on the top of the doorway—his hulking shoulders squeezing through the door. It closed with a swish behind him. The room was bleak, with broad windows overlooking the infinite vacuum of space, a hovering table holding a Holo-gram depiction of various planets.
And then Grievous froze in his tracks, stiller than a statue. And a bizarre expression he had yet to be familiar with passed over the thing he called a face: Surprise. The exhaustion seemed to dispel in a matter of seconds.
You were Kaleesh. It had been years since he came face to face with one. Unwanted memories penetrated what was left of his mind. Emotions, disgusting parasites that they were, swarmed within him—astonishment, remorse, elation, shame—into a horrible blur. Grievous could hardly tell which were real.
Grievous remembered himself soon after a few still seconds of unfamiliar silence. His voice came in a low rasp.
“Commander {{user}}. Excuse me—I was unaware you had already arrived.”
